AS SCREEN

THE AS SCREEN  

(assistant details)

This screen consists of two pages and is used to enter and amend details of GP 

assistants.           

Use the AS screen to hold: 

Identity details 

Recent assistantships 

Superannuation details 

As soon as an assistant is attached to a single handed GP or a partnership, identity 

details are shown on the bottom half of page 1 (up to nine of the most recent 

assistantships are displayed).  

The assistant s superannuation data is entered on page 2.  This includes SD and NI 

numbers, details of all Additional Voluntary Contributions contracts to the NHS 

superannuation scheme, and start and end dates for the assistant s main pensionable 

contract.  These details are used by the payment system to calculate the assistant s 

superannuable remuneration and contributions to support maintenance of returns to the 

superannuation division at Fleetwood. 

NOTE 

  Superannuation details cannot be entered until an assistant is attached to a 

single handed GP or a partnership.  The start date of the assistant is then taken 

as the oldest start date of an assistantship. 

A doctor who is or has been both a principal GP and an assistant GP must have separate 

details entered on the GD (GP Details) screen as well as the AS screen. 

In order to distinguish between principal and assistant GPs, assistant codes must always 

start with an asterisk (*).
