Understanding the GP Details Screen 

The GP Details screen is used to enter and maintain GP personal identity details (name, 

date of birth, surgery address, etc.).  The screen includes an indicator for controlling the 

production of electronic statements for single handed GPs. 

Certain fields are only mandatory for responsible GPs.  There is no facility to use 

screens after Page 1 for non responsible GPs. 

GP Code

This is an alpha numeric code.  Duplicate codes are not allowed, nor are codes such as 

`111111'.  Codes ZZZ100   ZZZ999 are reserved for Dummy GPs.  These codes should 

be assigned to fringe GPs.  Other codes commencing ZZZ will not be allowed. 

When details of a current GP are displayed, a pop up box is available from this field to 

display the PCT Code/Name and Practice Code/Name corresponding to the GP code as 

of today's date.  For further details, see page 1 9. 

Surname 

The GP's surname must be entered and consist of at least two characters.

If you entering or updating a GP's details a hyperlink is available from this 

field to help you to find the real National Code and check digit for a GP.
