2  Hardware and Software Requirements 

To receive the ASTRA Broadband service you must have the following hardware and software: 

2.1 Satellite dish 

The Broadband service is transmitted from the ASTRA satellites at 19.2  East and you must supply 

signals from that satellite position to the DVB S receiver installed on your computer. 

If you have an individual satellite dish it must be fitted with a Universal LNB and be aligned accurately 

to ASTRA 19.2  East. 

If you receive signals from a shared dish system, it must supply the full range of signals from ASTRA 

19.2  East and you must connect your DVB S receiver directly to the system. It is not recommended to 

receive the Broadband service by connecting your DVB S receiver indirectly through another receiver. 

ASTRA recommends that you have your dish installed by a professional installer. We recommend that 

you get quotations from several installers before you make a purchasing decision. 

2.2 Personal Computer 

To receive the ASTRA Broadband Service it is recommended that your Personal Computer (PC) has 

the following minimum specification: 

Pentium III 800 MHz CPU or equivalent 

256 MB RAM 

1GB free space on hard disk drive 

CD ROM drive 

Windows XP/2000 Operating System (Windows 98, 98SE and ME may be compatible, but are 

not supported). 

You must also have one of the following, which must be capable of receiving IP unicast/multicast 

signals at up to 50 Mbits/sec. 

DVB S PCI card 

USB Receiver device 

Ethernet Satellite Router 

IP enabled set top box 

Refer to your Content Provider's documentation to see which DVB devices they support. 

Note:  This user guide is intended only for users installing a DVB S PCI card or USB receiver.  If you 

want to install an Ethernet device or an IP enabled set top box, your Service Provider will supply you 

with specific installation advice for the ASTRA proxy client. 

Warning: The DVB receiver must be successfully installed and configured and you must restart your 

computer before you install the ASTRA Broadband proxy client.
