Seismology Instruction with the AS 1
Helicorder Screen Overview
The window that appears when the program is launched is
called the helicorder screen. The recording emulates what appears
on a drum recorder.
Using default settings each horizontal line represents an
hour. The current time (UTC) is found in the bottom left
corner of the screen. The trace should be recording along
the bottom hour line.
The date is posted on the 00 hour line. The scroll bar along the right side of the
window can be used to scroll back through the earlier recorded data.
The sampling rate is the data per second that are sent from the seismometer to the
computer. It should be a number between 6.1 and 6.2 samples per second for the AS 1.
This rate is determined when the introduction screen is visible, by counting the number
of data points that arrive in 5 seconds.
