From the Book of Revelation 157
The Fourth Trumpet (Rev 8:12)
The fourth angel blew his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, and
a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of their light was
darkened; a third of the day was kept from shining, and likewise a third of
the night. (Rev 8:12).
There will be a third less light reaching the earth from the sun, moon, and
stars. The third is not one third of the hours, but one third of the amount of
light. The atmosphere will be obscured or otherwise changed, so that less
light can get through to the earth.
There is a well known theory called nuclear winter. This theory states that
if enough nuclear bombs explode an increase in the amount of small
particles in the atmosphere will cause less light to reach the earth. These
small particles can come from ground level explosions, but they can also
come from fires ignited by explosions.
30
Therefore, any other event which
causes widespread fires, or which adds large amounts of small particles to
the upper atmosphere, could also cause a nuclear winter.
31
In any case,
temperatures would fall worldwide as a result. Thus, the fourth trumpet
describes a nuclear winter caused by the nuclear war of the sixth seal, or by
the widespread fires in the first trumpet, or by the comet piece falling into
the sea in the second trumpet, or by the combination of these events. Again,
notice how the events of the Book of Revelation are related to one another.
The Three Woes (Rev 8:13)
After the fourth trumpet, a warning is given about the three remaining
trumpets and the destruction which will follow. Holy Scripture is marking
off the events of last three trumpets as being much worse than the previous
events. This is remarkable because the previous trumpets describe a time of
great destruction, such as the world had never seen before. Yet what follows
will be even more severe. Here begins a time of supernatural punishments
from God. This follows after the many years of afflictions which proceed
mainly from mankind and nature (but under God's Providence).
The Fifth Trumpet (Rev 9:1 12)
Then from the smoke came locusts on the earth, and they were given
power like the power of scorpions of the earth; they were told not to harm
the grass of the earth or any green growth or any tree, but only those of
mankind who have not the seal of God upon their foreheads.... (Rev 9:3 4).
These locusts do not eat any green growth. They come out of the smoke
from the shaft of the bottomless pit (Rev 9:2). And they torture, for 5
