110 The Bible and the Future of the World
The three days of darkness which Moses brought upon the Egyptians was
preceded by numerous punishments from God, but was followed by only
one additional punishment, the death of all the first born of Egypt.
Therefore, the Three Days of Darkness will also occur near the end of a
series of supernatural punishments from God sent upon the wicked. These
punishments occur at the very end of the Forty Years. Many evildoers will
be killed during the Three Days of Darkness. And, just as in the time of
Moses and the Egyptians, everyone must remain inside during those three
days (Ex 10:23, 12:22). The wicked and unfaithful will not have light from
any source during that time, but wherever God's servants dwell there will be
light, just as there was light where the Israelites dwelt in Egypt (Ex 10:13).
The First Passover (Ex 11:1 to 12:51)
At midnight the L
ORD
smote all the first born in the land of Egypt, from
the first born of Pharaoh who sat on his throne to the first born of the
captive who was in the dungeon, and all the first born of the cattle.
(Ex 12:29).
This last of the plagues was the worst, the death of all the first born of
Egypt. These deaths were not caused by some natural force (such as hail or
disease), but by a supernatural force from God.
This plague foreshadows the time of the punishment of the wicked, when
God will put great numbers of evildoers to death, during the Three Days of
Darkness (Rev 9:13 19), and again after the Antichrist's reign (Rev 16:1). In
other sufferings of those future times, many people will die from various
afflictions which God sends, such as earthquakes, hail, and a flood. But with
some of those last punishments, God will kill His enemies more directly, by
supernatural means, not through acts of nature.
At the end of the Forty Years, during the Three Days of Darkness (late
2039 or early 2040), many of the wicked and unfaithful shall be killed by
God (Rev 9:13 19). This future plague will be like the last plague on the
Egyptians, when many of the Egyptians were put to death by supernatural
means, but the faithful children of God were spared. Again, after the
Church's great suffering (in the 25th century A.D.), during the series of
punishments of the wicked, the faithful will be spared but the wicked will
finally be killed by God. And the rest were slain by the sword of him who
sits upon the horse, the sword that issues from his mouth; and all the birds
were gorged with their flesh. (Rev 19:21).
