From the Book of Daniel 97
the holy ones of the Supreme One, and the time arrived, and the holy ones
obtained the kingdom. (Dan 7:21 22).
Antichrist will make war against Christians, the Church, and Christianity.
He is allowed to have power to destroy church buildings and to capture,
torture, and kill Christians. These are the years of the Church's greatest
suffering. This persecution of Christians is worldwide, with only a few
isolated places escaping from it. This persecution of the Faith is the worst in
all of human history.
Yet, in the same sentence, Holy Scripture tells us that there is a limit to
how long Antichrist will have power. God rescues His people, punishes the
wicked, and establishes His kingdom on earth. Therefore, after the end of
Antichrist's reign, there will be first the judgment of the wicked, and then
the establishment of the reign of Christianity over all the earth. This glorious
time for the Faith is called the Millennium, because it lasts over a thousand
years.
And he will speak words against the Supreme One, and will exhaust the
holy ones of the Most High, and he will think about what it would take to
change the times and the laws, and they will be given into his hand until a
time, and times, and half a time. And a trial will begin, so that his power
may be taken away, and be crushed, and be undone all the way to the end.
(Dan 7:25 26).
Antichrist will speak words of blasphemy against God, and he will try to
make himself worshipped as a god. He will be successful at persecuting
faithful Christians, who are the saints of the Most High.
The phrase, to change the times and the laws, may mean that he will
believe he is the cause of the changes in the seasons. The reign of Antichrist
occurs at about the same time that the earth's spin begins to wobble, causing
the seasons to be disrupted (Isaiah 24:19 20). This wobble is not caused by
him, but is a punishment from God because of the many sins of Christians
and others on earth. It is probably caused by a natural event under the
Providence of God.
He will also change the laws. This does not merely mean that he will
change human laws, but that he will make new religious laws. It may mean
that he thinks about what it might take to alter the laws of nature. He cannot
do so, but those are the years of false signs and wonders, as Jesus Himself
warned. For false Christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs
and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. Lo, I have told
you beforehand. (Mt 24:24 25).
The phrase a time, and times, and half a time is usually interpreted to
mean a period of 3 years. Antichrist reigns over almost the whole world
for nearly seven years. He has power over the kingdom of the North
