vi The Bible and the Future of the World
Author's Forward
The Bible Was Written by God
All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof,
for correction, and for training in righteousness.... (2 Timothy 3:16).
The Bible is a set of books written under the inspiration of God. Though
many different human persons wrote the various books of the Bible, the
words of the Bible are God's holy words. Therefore, each and every book,
passage, verse, and word in the Bible, everything written in Holy Scripture,
must be completely true, accurate, and without error. God's Holy Scripture
is Infallible because it was written by God. Jesus said, scripture cannot be
broken (John 10:35). This means that the Bible cannot contain any
falsehoods or errors, and also that the Bible cannot lose its force.
If you lived at the time when Jesus first began to preach and to heal, you
would listen to His words and consider them. In the beginning, you might
agree with some of what He said and disagree with other things He said. But
eventually, you would have to decide, Is Jesus God? If you decide that He
is God, then you would have to admit that everything He said must be
correct, true, and without error, because He is God. You would then have to
change your mind about whichever teachings of His seemed to you to be
wrong. God does not lie or misunderstand or make mistakes.
It is the same with the Bible. Sooner or later you have to decide, Is the
Bible God's Holy Word or not? If you decide that the Bible is God's Holy
Scripture, then you must admit that the Bible cannot have any errors or
falsehoods in it. How could anyone think that the Bible could both be God's
words and contain errors or falsehoods?
The Bible is God's Holy Infallible Scripture. Whoever interprets the Bible
without admitting this truth will understand little of God's Word. The Bible
must be interpreted with faith in God as the true Author of the Bible and the
universe.
It is the same with the Church. I believe that the teaching of the holy
Catholic Church is God's teaching, without exception. God's teaching
cannot have any errors in it. Those who are in authority in the Church
commit sins and make mistakes, nevertheless the Church's teaching is God's
teaching and is without error.
`For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not
a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished.' (Mt 5:18).
