Chapter 4 Managing Devices
Understanding Redundancy Support
Expected Behaviors for Redundant Devices
What should you expect when using redundant devices in the Hosting Solution
Engine?
If a redundant unit is not available, no action can be performed on either device
pair. Every action is performed on both pairs or neither pair.
The Hosting Solution Engine cannot synchronize device configurations.

Understanding CSS Redundancy
The CSS redundancy protocol provides chassis level redundancy between two
CSSs. This feature protects the network and ensures that users have continuous
access to servers and content.
The Hosting Solution Engine supports the following features:
CSS
box to box redundancy where a crossover cable connects the master and
backup CSS interfaces. This requires a management interface to be
configured on both the master and backup CSS devices.
Virtual IP (VIP) and virtual interface redundancy Provides redundant VIP
addresses and redundant virtual interfaces for fate sharing (the redundant
interfaces and redundant VIPs fail over together to the backup CSS) and
server default gateways.
Release 1.8 does not support configuration of CSS Adaptive Session
Redundancy.
Note
See the installation documentation or your online help for instructions on setting
up your network devices. See the Device Manager online help for instructions on
how to set up device redundancy for the CSS. The redundancy will appear only
after completing these steps.
