were Nisan, the Passover would begin on Nisan 14 and March 20, which is three days before the Spring 

Equinox that year (March 23 at 14:24 hours JST). The Spring Equinox was one of the factors which 

determined when to add a leap month of AdarII, delaying the start of Nisan by a month. Generally, a leap 

year was added every 2 or 3 years in order to keep the start of Passover from falling before the Spring Equinox.
